My ART141 Portfolio explores the concept of animals that have negative symbolism/are bad omens in some cultures while are praised as bringers of positive fortune and good omens in other cultures. With this concept, I wanted to display the two "faces" of their symbolism in the 4 pieces, comparing them directly and literally. Glowing butterflies are present in each piece, signifying change and transformation of the animals' reputations across cultures. I also used different flora and fauna in each piece to subtly symbolize these contrasting qualities through the environment as well.
